The Art of Teaching Yoga

Led by Arianna Santucci and Rebecca Hannah who have a combined experience of 20 years of teaching between them and who have taught classes, workshops and training all over the world.
What to expect?
Our course will focus on creative and innovative sequencing, empowering you to create and teach sequences which are intelligent, accessible and smart. We aim to equip our students with a deeper understanding of movement methodologies that can be applied to all bodies and levels. The course will be centred around the vinyasa flow practice. However, it will also draw inspiration from a variety of yoga and movement disciplines including:
*Mandala
*Ashtanga/Rocket
*Yin*Flexibility/Mobility drills and conditioning inspired by contortion
*Floor work principles inspired by contemporary dance
Our course aims to offer a contemporary approach to yoga philosophy showing how you can still respect and draw upon ancient traditions whilst making them relevant and applicable to all ages/bodies/lifestyles and beliefs.This approach will include
*Pranayama techniques for modern living
*Yoga mythology and mudras and how they can be applied to asanas and designing lesson plans
Practice of asana
We will break down the practice of asana into the following modules:

Hips/hamstrings/ankles/feet

Glutes and hip flexors

Core/balance
-
Backbends including: shoulders/upper/mid and lower back

Arm balances and inversions including wrist health

10 day intensive retreat in Costa Blanca,Spain, Friday 18th to Monday 28th of April

Assessment Weekend Friday 7th to Sunday 9th of June, London (Venue to be confirmed)
In particular our course will focus on:

Developing the strength to support your flexibility

Functional mobility for modern day life

Creative Sequencing.

The art of adjustments including adjusting and assisting for group and private classes. How to integrate partner work into your routines. How to use props correctly and efficiently for self assists.

The art of teaching including how to present yourself, vocal projection, holding the space and giving and receiving feedback

How yoga philosophy can be applied to modern day life for example: having a healthy relationship with yourself and others, stress management, setting goals and expectations, time management and avoiding burnout.

Yoga as a business including creating your brand, approaching studios/businesses, social media and marketing.
By the end of this course you will be able to:

Teach group and private classes

Adapt classes to suit a range of different body types and abilities. This will include offering modifications and advancements

Offer adjustments and assists in a confident, respectful and effective way.

Adapt classes to suit a variety of different styles and requirements from studios. For example vinyasa flow, power, yoga for beginners, flexibility/mobility, core and slow flow.
Pre requisites
We require a minimum of two years consistent of any movement based practice, for example pole, aerial, yoga, personal training.
Attendance
Yoga alliance requires students to attend 100% of the course which is 180 hours of contact time. To participate in the course you must attend the 10 day intensive in person. However, it is possible to attend the London weekends on Zoom if you do not live locally.
If for any reason you miss a module then a catch up session can be arranged at an additional cost. This can be shared between multiple students if applicable.
Homework
There will be an element of home study involved in the course referred to as non-contact hours.This will include reading, journaling, lesson planning and philosophy and anatomy assignments.
Assessment
The course will culminate with a practical assessment which will involve:

Writing and presenting a lesson plan for a 60 minute group or private class

Teaching a 20 minute section of the lesson plan to your peers

If you do not meet the course requirements you will be given the opportunity to improve any areas of weakness and be encouraged to pass at a later date
Will I get the opportunity to teach straight away?
It is our belief that the best way to learn to teach is to practise teaching straight away. We will support you to organise and deliver community classes. There may also be the opportunity to assist us in our classes/workshops and upcoming trainings.
